Join us for an inside look at the Compostable Field Testing Program (CFTP) as the team unpacks key insights from 10 years of collecting field data on the disintegration of certified compostable packaging.

We'll discuss

  • How field conditions like moisture, oxygen, and temperature drive disintegration outcomes
  • Key changes in the field testing methods
  • What’s next for the CFTP and plans for targeted field research

Whether you’re a composter, compostable product producer, policymaker, or researcher, you should join this webinar to learn how the CFTP has spent a decade centering open-source data, gleaning meaningful insights about the connection between operating conditions and product disintegration, and facilitating our industry's collective understanding of field testing principles and practices.

This webinar is supported by funding from Closed Loop Partners

Pricing: FREE to all!

This webinar will be recorded and made available to all registrants in a follow-up email.

This webinar is eligible for one Continuing Education Credit for Certified Compost Operations Managers™ and Certified Composting Professionals™. More information on attendance verification will be available in the follow-up email.

About the CFTP

The Compostable Field Testing Program (CFTP) is an international, open-source research platform that empowers composters to field test the disintegration of compostable packaging in their own operations. Operating as a joint venture effort between CREF and BSIbio, the CFTP has collected data from field trials conducted at compost facilities that vary widely in geography, scale, feedstocks and processing technologies.

Meet the Speakers

Emily McGill is the outgoing Program Director of the Compostable Field Testing Program (CFTP) through her role with BSIbio Packaging Solutions. With a Bachelor's degree in Bioresource Engineering, Emily has been supporting field tests since 2013 and played a significant role co-authoring standardized methods for field testing compostable products under ASTM.

In addition to her work with the CFTP, Emily has experience in corporate and municipal solid waste management planning, a background in zero-waste product design and single-use plastic reduction, and since 2015 has led community-based urban sustainability and circular economy initiatives, including co-founding Master Recycler Vancouver, a zero-waste education program for adults.

Liv Johansson is the new Program Manager for the CFTP. Liv has spent nearly a decade in the waste industry, dedicated to improving environmental outcomes and circular economy advancements with a special focus on composting systems. She is a Certified Compost Professional (CCP), a certified Compost Facility Operator, a Board member with the Washington Organics Recycling Council (WORC), and certified Master Recycler.

Prior to her work with the CFTP, Liv served as the compost facility operator at the Woodland Park Zoo and the Science and Permitting Manager for Engineered Compost Systems. She has a B.S. in Environmental Economics and policy from UC Berkeley's College of Natural Resources.
